Sheffield return to winning ways as they overcome Birmingham City University Tigers in a 5-2 triumph.
Debutant Stefano Loro with an impressive performance, the Italian linking up the play well, providing 2 assists in the process.
Birmingham took the lead early on, as they smashed a penalty into the back of the net following a foul from Adam Hollingsworth.
Sheffield regrouped quickly after the timeout, Loro and Gerson Costa linking up well to provide former club captain Thomas Msadala with the easy tap in.
With the momentum now with Sheffield, just moments after the equaliser, Danny Neath forces an own goal to turn the game on its head.
Ollie Wheatly-O’Neill scores the goal of the game late on in the first half, the former England International with a sweet strike on the volley into the bottom left hand corner.
Early into the second half, Loro grabs his first of two assists of the game, playing the ball across goal for Costa to finish to give Sheffield a 3 goal advantage.
As Birmingham began to push men forward in search of their second goal of the game, Sheffield hit on the counter, Wheatly-O’Neill and Loro linking up well, Loro backheels into the path of Sergiu Didici, who slots the ball across the goalkeeper to seal the victory.
In the dying moments of the game the Tigers fired a consolation goal, but it would prove to be too little too late, as Sheffield put in a much improved performance following last weeks disappointment.
Man of the match, Gerson Costa speaking after the game:
“I believe last weeks loss was beneficial for our upcoming matches. Todays game was an example of what improvements are being made on the diamond shape, all thanks to the last loss. Every player stayed in position the whole game, therefore everyone started enjoying the game after our first goal! Everyone looked nervous in the first 10 minutes maybe because it was our first home match, so the pressure was higher. I personally was trying to complicate my game, that’s why I made few silly mistakes. But when I started simplifying my game I looked a better player on the pitch, and with time I felt more confident, all thanks to the players around me and on the bench with all the positive vibes.”
