Wildey was delighted with his team’s performance as he set his players the challenge to be ruthless in front of goal. As the players duly deliver, beating Warrington 26-3.

It only took 59 seconds for Sheffield to get off the mark when a cross-court shot/pass found its way to Rhys Butterworth at the back post who had the easy task of popping it into an empty net.

From this moment Sheffield went on a rampage, as they were 6 nil up by the five-minute mark with Butterworth scoring a hattrick, but he wasn’t done there as he would go on and add a further 4 goals before the end of the day.

Wildey was pleased with his team’s performance speaking to the Sheffield media team at the end of the match and stating:

“Today was about closing the goal difference gap between us and East Riding, who are currently top of the league. We needed to put in a good performance, no disrespect to Warrington, but we needed to be relentless, and we couldn’t take our foot off the gas at all. Overall, I’ve got to be happy with it in the end.”

Warrington did show great character even during the domination from Sheffield. They kept working hard and were awarded with 3 goals, which only turned out to be conciliation goals.

Their player of the match had to be the goalie, with Sheffield constantly peppering him with shot after shot he stood up to the challenge, even after 26 goals had gone in already. Without his important saves and determination, the scoreline could have been so much worse for Warrington. Even with this win, Sheffield dropped a place down to 3rd in the league after Manchester’s double victory putting them level on points with Sheffield, having a superior goal difference. But with only 3 points separating from 1st to 3rd it’s anyone’s game coming towards the business end of the season.
